The Philosophy and Objectives of the Academy of Aristotle

The Academy of Aristotle was established in 1992 as “Hellenic-American Academy of
Aristotle.” Two educators, Zissis Papanikolaou and Dimitrios Nikolaidis, supported by a group of parents who shared their vision, laid the foundation of the organization as a non-profit and independent entity. The founders’ mission is carried on by today’s leadership of the Academy in its new venue, at Saint George, Media. The governing of the school, in both the academic and the administrative aspects, is the responsibility of the Director, the School Board and the Parents. Parents are our partners in the education of their children. Their support of the school’s philosophy and objectives is very important.

OBJECTIVES OF THE ACADEMY

The Academy’s objectives are periodically evaluated and modified according to its
students’ needs and include:

  1. The systematic teaching of the Modern Greek Language.
  2. The teaching of Hellenic history from ancient to modern times, with emphasis on
Hellenic civilization, art, geography, and contemporary life and national issues.
  3. The cultivation of a national as well as religious identity within our students.
  4. The teaching and preservation of Hellenic traditional dances, songs, and customs.
  5. The cultivation of the athletic and Olympic spirit.
